Due to the thaw, part of Poland is already underwater, astonishing warmth in the forecasts for the coming days
Poland is facing significant flooding risks due to recent rains and rising temperatures, with hydrological alerts issued in several regions.
Recent weather changes in Poland have led to severe flooding risks, particularly due to melting snow and heavy rainfall. As of Monday, hydrological warnings have been issued for several provinces, including Mazovia, Lower Silesia, Opole, and Silesia, indicating that water levels could reach dangerous limits. The situation is alarming, especially for the western regions of Poland, where local emergency services have responded to nearly 200 calls concerning rising water levels in a short span of time.
Firefighters in the Greater Poland Voivodeship have been particularly overwhelmed with calls related to the increasing water hazards. Water levels are rising not only in rivers and ditches but are also spilling onto roads and bridges, further complicating the situation. In some areas, water has reached residential neighborhoods, affecting streets, yards, and basements, and in certain instances, is threatening to inundate first floors of homes.
Looking ahead, forecasts predict astonishing warmth, which could exacerbate the situation as further melting occurs. The combination of rainfall and warmth poses a dual threat to these areas, heightening the risk of flooding and requiring immediate attention from both local authorities and emergency services to mitigate damage and ensure public safety.
