Storms may hit 161 cities in Goiás this Monday, predicts Cimehgo
The Meteorological and Hydrological Information Center of Goiás forecasts storms for over 160 municipalities in Goiás due to increased humidity and heat.
The Centro de Informações Meteorológicas e Hidrológicas de Goiás (Cimehgo) has issued a weather alert predicting that over 160 cities in Goiás, Brazil, will experience severe storms on Monday, the 23rd. These storms are attributed to a combination of rising humidity and increasing temperatures, with specific forecasts indicating wind gusts and lightning that could exceed rainfall rates of 60mm/hour. In the capital city, Goiânia, temperatures are expected to peak at 30°C with relative humidity fluctuating between 50% and 90%.
Meteorologist André Amorim from Cimehgo explained that the ongoing heat and humidity will contribute to atmospheric instability throughout the week, leading to continued rainfall accompanied by high winds and thunder. The increased cloud cover depicted in satellite images is a precursor to these unstable weather patterns, which are expected to develop further. Residents are urged to stay informed and prepared for potential weather-related disruptions in the coming days.
As storm systems often pose risks to both infrastructure and public safety, local authorities are likely to monitor conditions closely. The storms may impact various sectors, including agriculture, transportation, and daily life in the affected areas. This weather situation underscores the importance of timely meteorological assessments as climate patterns become increasingly unpredictable and severe.
