Arrival of cold front generates storm alert for almost 70 municipalities in Goiás, says Cimehgo; see which ones
A cold front is approaching Goiás, Brazil, leading to a storm alert for 69 municipalities due to potential isolated thunderstorms and severe weather conditions.
The recent heat in Goiás is expected to be replaced by a more unstable weather system starting from Thursday, as warned by the Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Information of Goiás (Cimehgo). This change is attributed to a cold front moving in from Southeast Brazil, which will gradually affect atmospheric conditions across the state. The meteorological report indicates a significant increase in humidity combined with high daytime temperatures will likely lead to the development of isolated storms, which are characterized by heavy rainfall.
Local expert André Amorim, a meteorologist and Cimehgo manager, points out that Goiás has recently been experiencing prolonged heat, which sets the stage for subsequent storms. The isolated thunderstorms could produce moderate to strong wind gusts, lightning, and even hail in certain localized areas. The expected rainfall could range from 20 to 30 millimeters per hour, with potential daily totals surpassing 40 millimeters accompanied by wind speeds exceeding 50 km/h, thereby enhancing the risk of adverse weather impacts on affected municipalities.
With this development, local authorities and residents in the affected regions are urged to stay informed and prepared for the incoming weather changes, as the implications of such storms can affect daily life, including potential disruptions in transportation, utilities, and safety concerns. This warning serves as an important reminder of the need for preparedness in the face of sudden weather events prevalent during this time of the year in Brazil.
