Litgrid has a new leader – A. Šemeškevičius begins his duties
A. Šemeškevičius has been appointed as the new leader of Litgrid for a five-year term, focusing on enhancing Lithuania's electricity transmission system.
Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator, Litgrid, has appointed A. Šemeškevičius as its new leader. His appointment follows a public selection process and comes with a five-year mandate from the company's board. According to Tomas Varneckas, the chairman of the board, Šemeškevičius brings a wealth of experience in large-scale infrastructure projects and expertise in digital technologies and cybersecurity to the role.
Prior to his position at Litgrid, A. Šemeškevičius served as the technology director at Telia Lietuva for eleven years. He also held a position as an independent board member at Litgrid from 2023 to 2024, where he focused on technology and digitalization. This background in technology is seen as crucial in aiding the enhancement of the electricity system's resilience in Lithuania and ensuring its reliable operation.
Šemeškevičius articulated his commitment to leveraging his experience to strengthen the country's electricity transmission system, emphasizing the need for operational reliability, development of flexibility service markets, and the creation of an advanced, customer-focused organization. This strategic leadership role is significant amid concerns about adverse conditions affecting solar power plants and the need for investments in projects that are economically viable, indicating a broader context in which this leadership appointment will play a critical role in Lithuania's energy strategy.
