Outlook for low pressure systems and weather changes

There is a forecast for a period of warming temperatures followed by cloudy and wet weather conditions across Iceland.

Meteorologist Atli Ísleifsson reports on upcoming weather developments in Iceland, predicting a temporary warming period with temperatures ranging from 1 to 7 degrees Celsius. The Icelandic Meteorological Office indicates that a low-pressure system to the west will influence the weather today, bringing varying weather including southeastern winds, drizzle, and snow in certain regions while remaining predominantly dry in the northeast.

The forecast suggests that tomorrow, a deeper low pressure will move northward just east of the country, causing winds to shift towards the north and northwest. This could lead to strong winds, particularly in the East Fjords later in the day, along with snow showers especially in the northern Highlands. Meanwhile, light rain or sleet is expected in the southeast and eastern parts of the country as the low-pressure system passes. As temperatures drop again on the following evening, frost will return across the entire nation.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, forecasters predict a cold southwest wind scenario accompanied by snowfall or light snow showers, while drier conditions are expected for the eastern regions of the country. The changes in weather patterns will be closely monitored by the Meteorological Office, with continuous updates being made available to the public on weather conditions that may affect travel and daily activities in Iceland.
