Outlook for low pressure and weather changes
The Icelandic Meteorological Office predicts changes in weather patterns with a warming trend followed by low pressure systems bringing variability including rain and snow across different regions.
In a recent article, weather expert Atli Ísleifsson discusses the anticipated weather patterns for Iceland, highlighting a temporary warming trend with temperatures ranging from one to seven degrees Celsius. The weather forecast indicates the presence of a low-pressure system to the west of the country, which is expected to influence the weather in the upcoming days. Conditions will generally be breezy with southeastern winds and occasional showers or sleet, particularly in the southern regions, while the northeastern regions are expected to remain mostly dry.
As the low-pressure system progresses northeastwards towards Iceland, more significant changes in wind direction are anticipated, leading to strong winds particularly in the East Fjords. The forecast also predicts snow showers primarily in the northern highlands, with mixed precipitation expected in the southeastern and eastern parts of the country. Following these changes, there will be a notable drop in temperatures with frost reappearing across the country by the evening of the following day.
Come Wednesday, the weather will shift again, with a cold southwesterly wind bringing further chances of snow showers to various regions, except for the eastern parts which may experience dry weather. This unpredictability in the weather highlights the dynamic nature of Icelandic climate, emphasizing the need for residents to stay updated on the latest forecasts as conditions can change rapidly.
