Last Chance Before Sławków
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kubel plans an important infrastructure project to build a standard-gauge railway line between Mościska and Skniłów, with completion expected by the second quarter of 2027.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kubel has announced that the significant infrastructure project for Ukraine this year is the construction of a standard-gauge railway line from Mościska to Skniłów, located on the western outskirts of Lviv. The line aims to enhance transportation capabilities and is particularly timed to compete with existing transport facilities, particularly the LHS line and the Sławków Euroterminal. Completion of this project is aimed for the second quarter of 2027.
Funding for the new railway section is primarily sourced from the United States through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), contributing approximately $225 million. In addition, Ukrainian funds and a non-repayable grant of €75 million provided by the European Commission under the CEF instrument will complement this financing. This significant international support reflects both the importance of the project for Ukraine's infrastructure development and the strategic intent to enhance regional connectivity.
The new Skniłów terminal is positioned to markedly increase competition within the transport sector, aiming to surpass the current capacity of the Sławków Euroterminal. The Euroterminal has an annual capacity exceeding 2 million tons of bulk goods and aims to expand its facilities to accommodate 530,000 TEUs by 2027, backed by a planned investment of 190 million PLN. As both projects develop, the competition between them is likely to shape the logistics and transport landscape in the region, presenting implications for trade efficiency and regional economics.
