Man arrested after fleeing police and injuring an officer
A drunk driver from Rokiškis fled from police and injured an officer while attempting to evade arrest, causing accidents with other vehicles.
On the afternoon of February 19, concerned citizens notified the police about a suspiciously maneuvering Volkswagen T-Cross on a road in the Rokiškis district. When police officers responded to the report, they spotted the vehicle heading towards Rokiškis, despite having their sirens and lights activated. The driver, however, ignored their signals and continued to drive towards the city, leading to a series of dangerous encounters with police as well as unfortunate consequences for other road users.
In an attempted escape, the fleeing driver rammed several police vehicles in reverse to avoid capture. During this chaotic episode, the suspect also ran over the foot of a police investigator involved in the incident. Despite the driver’s efforts to evade the authorities, he ultimately caused accidents involving two other vehicles and created a hazardous situation on the road, showcasing reckless behavior under the influence of alcohol.
The pursuit ended when the intoxicated driver was finally apprehended on Birutės street after creating chaos on the road. Law enforcement was able to take him into custody, ensuring that his dangerous driving did not endanger any more lives. This incident highlights the ongoing issues related to drunk driving and the challenges police face while enforcing traffic laws in potentially volatile situations.
