Intoxicated driver attempted to escape from the police – fitness not sufficient
A drunk driver in Hämeenlinna tried to flee from the police but was quickly caught due to poor physical condition.
In Hämeenlinna, a police patrol stopped a van around 4 AM on Saturday after the driver, a man under 50, recorded a breathalyzer reading of 0.93 mg/l. A drug test also indicated that he had used narcotics, and moreover, he did not hold a valid driver's license. When asked to exit the vehicle, the driver unexpectedly attempted to run away but did not manage to escape for long due to his physical condition.
The man was soon apprehended after failing to cross a nearby ditch, as noted in a statement from the Hämeen police department. During his capture, he attempted to engage in a struggle with the officers and even tried to strike the constables, but ultimately did not succeed in his actions. This incident exemplifies the challenges law enforcement faces during busy weekends, as noted by the Hämeen police, who reported handling a total of 512 incidents between Friday and Sunday, including 19 alcohol-related offenses and 30 domestic alarm calls.
The arrested individual was taken for a blood test and subsequently transported to a police station. The weekend's heightened activity highlights the ongoing issue of driving under the influence and its consequences, drawing attention to the importance of public safety and police vigilance in addressing such incidents.
