K. Budrys criticizes Hungary for blocking the sanctions package against Russia: it is too audacious and unacceptable

K. Budrys condemns Hungary's obstruction of EU sanctions against Russia, suggesting it harms collective European interests and calls for financial pressure.

K. Budrys, during a press conference in Brussels, openly criticized Hungary for blocking the European Union’s sanctions package against Russia. He emphasized that member states cannot become hostages to the actions of a single country regarding sanctions. Budrys pointed out Hungary's uncooperative stance, indicating that its actions obstruct other EU nations' concerns tied to their businesses.

Additionally, he highlighted another significant issue: Hungary's delay in approving a large 90 billion euro loan, inferring that domestic political circumstances, likely linked to upcoming elections in Hungary, are influencing this decision. He asserted that such behavior is detrimental to the European Union's integrity and hinted at the necessity for the EU to consider legal measures to prevent such unilateral manipulations that undermine ongoing efforts against Russia.

Looking towards the future, Budrys remarked that the EU might need to explore pressure tactics through financial incentives or mechanisms like the EUR 90 billion funding. He concluded by questioning the necessity of having 27 members in the union given these challenges, suggesting a need for a reevaluation of the collective governance within the EU system.
