Nemesio Oseguera, also known as 'El Mencho', the leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed in a military operation in the western Mexican state of Jalisco. Oseguera, a former police officer, was critically injured during a shootout and succumbed during his transport to Mexico City. His cartel, which had evolved into an international criminal operation, was in competition with the Sinaloa Cartel and was responsible for trafficking cocaine and fentanyl worth billions of dollars into the United States. This operation followed intense pressures from the United States and the Trump administration towards the Mexican government, which had threatened direct intervention if Mexico did not escalate its crackdown on cartels.
