Woman dies in car accident in Foggia, husband arrested for premeditated murder
A 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in a car accident that investigators believe was staged.
In a tragic incident in San Severo, Foggia, 47-year-old Lucia Salcone lost her life under suspicious circumstances following a car accident on September 27, 2024. The police have arrested her husband, Ciro Caliendo, 48, who is accused of premeditated murder. Authorities suspect that the car crash, during which Salcone's vehicle caught fire, was a simulated incident intended to cover up the alleged crime.
The accident occurred along the provincial road 13 where Salcone and her husband were traveling. Investigators discovered Salcone's body, which had been severely burnt, raising immediate concerns about the nature of the incident. While the initial assumption suggested a tragic accident, evidence collected during the investigation led the police to focus on Caliendo as the primary suspect, meaning the case quickly turned from an accident investigation to a murder inquiry.
Caliendo has been in the spotlight since shortly after the incident, with law enforcement pursuing leads that pointed to a possible motive behind the alleged murder. As of today, he has been formally charged and is now in custody, marking a significant development in a case that has shocked the local community and raised questions about domestic violence and safety for women in the region.
