Team from Electricity Department Arrives to Stop Theft, People Run Away with Meters

In Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a team from the electricity department led by Sub-Divisional Officer Amit Sharma was met with strong resistance from local residents while inspecting properties to curb power theft and collect outstanding dues. The issue arose at the Murain Tola sub-center, where the team discovered suspiciously installed electricity meters during their investigation. When the team attempted to seize the questionable meters, they faced hostility from neighborhood groups who objected to the operation. Reports indicate that over 50 individuals confronted the officials, leading to a chaotic scene where meters were forcibly taken by some residents, including a few identified as Naseem Ahmed, Anas Ahmed, and Usman, causing the team to retreat momentarily. Fortunately, the stolen meters were later retrieved by the authorities. Following the incident, departmental officials filed a complaint with the local police station to initiate legal proceedings against the assailants who obstructed their duty. This incident highlights the challenges faced by government teams in enforcing regulations and the societal issues related to electricity theft that persist in the region.
