FHC Foundation Makes Historical Interviews Available on Redemocratization
The Fernando Henrique Cardoso Foundation has launched a project that makes historical interviews about Brazil's redemocratization available to the public.
On Monday, October 23, the Fernando Henrique Cardoso Foundation launched the "Cenas da Redemocratização" project, which provides access to excerpts and complete interviews from the television program "Vamos Sair da Crise," hosted by journalist Alexandre Machado from 1987 to 1993. This initiative has recovered, digitized, and cataloged 126 recordings from VHS tapes of the show, which played a significant role in facilitating discussions with political figures during Brazil's redemocratization period. The program featured prominent political figures, including Leonel Brizola, Ulysses Guimarães, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is currently the President of Brazil. The launch event will include a debate featuring Machado, writer Fernando Gabeira, and journalist Eliane Cantanhêde, moderated by Sergio Fausto, the general director of the foundation. The project also includes nine mini-documentaries, three of which highlight statements from candidates in the 1989 presidential election, alongside other informative episodes. This initiative not only serves as a historical archive but also emphasizes the importance of discussions that took place during a pivotal time in Brazil's democratic journey.
