On the 23rd, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol warmly welcomed Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ahead of their scheduled summit, declaring, "I can't wait to meet you, my eternal comrade, President Lula." He expressed his excitement for Lula's state visit to South Korea on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sharing sentiments in both Korean and Portuguese. He recognizes Lula's remarkable journey from a child laborer to a symbol of democratic resilience, emphasizing that Lula's leadership is contributing to Brazil's revival.
President Yoon commended Lula for proving that democracy is the most effective tool for socio-economic development, despite facing dark periods historically. He reflected on their shared experiences as young men, noting the emotional bond they formed during the G7 summit last year, where they exchanged stories of their youth. Yoon believes that Lula's unwavering dedication and courage will lead to significant prosperity for Brazil, expressing support for Lula's impactful journey in the history of democracy.
Lula’s visit marks the first official state visit to South Korea by a Brazilian president in 21 years, since the presidency of Roh Moo-hyun in May 2005. The two leaders are set to discuss various ways to strengthen economic cooperation and will participate in a signing ceremony of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) followed by a state dinner as part of their schedule for the day.
