President Yoon and Brazilian President Lula to Hold Summit on the 23rd... Lula's First State Visit to Korea in 21 Years
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit South Korea from November 22 to 24 for a state visit and will hold a summit with President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 23rd.
President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea has invited Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for a state visit from November 22 to 24, marking Lula's first visit to Korea in 21 years since his first term in 2005. An official announcement from the Blue House stated that the two leaders are scheduled to hold a summit meeting on the morning of the 23rd, which will include the signing of a memorandum of understanding and a state dinner. This visit symbolizes a continuation of diplomatic ties that date back to Brazil being one of the first countries to establish relations with Korea in 1959.
The Blue House emphasized that Brazil is a traditional ally of South Korea and the largest trade and investment partner in South America, with a vibrant community of about 50,000 Koreans residing there. During the summit, the presidents are expected to enhance practical cooperation in various areas such as trade and investment, climate change, energy, space, defense, science and technology, agriculture, education and culture, and human exchanges. The summit aims to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level, strengthening the ties between the two nations.
Additionally, the two leaders share personal experiences of overcoming hardships, which fosters an emotional bond between them, and both prioritize social integration and pragmatism in governance. This shared philosophy is anticipated to serve as an important catalyst in further solidifying the relationship between South Korea and Brazil. The invitation for this visit was extended by President Yoon during a previous meeting during the G20 summit in South Africa last November. Lula's wife, Rosângela da Silva, also emphasized the importance of friendly relations between the two countries during a recent event in São Paulo, highlighting the cultural exchanges between them.
