Super trailer with million-dollar cargo to Saudi Arabia faces 'watchmaker's work' on SP highway

A massive logistics operation involving the transport of a 540-ton transformer from Greater São Paulo to Saudi Arabia is underway, showing the challenges of transporting sensitive equipment.

A large-scale logistics operation has commenced in Greater São Paulo to transport an enormous 540-ton transformer to Saudi Arabia, necessitating the involvement of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) to temporarily halt traffic on the Presidente Dutra Highway. This transformer, produced in Guarulhos, is the fourth of a total of 14 units that are being dispatched for the ambitious Neom project, a mega city initiative in Saudi Arabia aimed at constructing a linear city utilizing renewable energy over a stretch of 170 kilometers.

The transformer, measuring 11 meters in length and 6 meters in width, is incredibly sensitive due to its internal components, which require meticulous handling similar to the precision of watchmaking. Experts indicate that the combined power of all units would be enough to supply electricity to two cities the size of São Paulo or a whole city like New York. This meticulous nature of the operation stresses the significance and complexity of logistics in handling large-scale machinery.

According to Alexandre Malveiro, a director involved in the project, the current phase is not aimed at providing electricity to residences but rather to establish the necessary infrastructure for the construction of the city. This highlights the scale of the Neom project, focusing not only on urban development but also on pioneering renewable energy initiatives, showcasing the immense logistical effort and planning put into supporting such an ambitious project.
