The accident occurred on the morning of Sunday, October 22, during festivities that were scheduled to last the weekend. Another young man, who attempted to rescue his friend, also found himself in distress and required medical assistance, later being transferred to a hospital in the nearby city of Campo Grande due to the severity of their condition.
The wedding celebration began on the previous evening, Saturday, October 21, and was taking place at a farm approximately 20 kilometers from Bonito. The Military Fire Corps received a report of the accident and responded quickly, but due to the distance from the site of the incident, they encountered the victims while they were being transported in private vehicles. Unfortunately, both young men experienced cardiac arrest due to drowning.
This tragic incident raises awareness of safety measures needed in such celebratory events, especially regarding activities like zip-lining near water bodies.
