PM arrests suspects selling 24 marijuana brigadeiros to revelers at megablocks in SP

Two women were arrested by the Military Police in São Paulo for allegedly selling marijuana-infused brigadeiros during post-carnival festivities.

In São Paulo, during the post-carnival festivities, the Military Police arrested two women suspected of drug trafficking for selling marijuana-infused brigadeiros, known as 'brisadeiros'. The police seized 24 of these brigadeiros along with three marijuana cigarettes and R$ 169 in cash from the suspects. This arrest took place in the southerly area of Parque do Ibirapuera, a popular location for the city's megablocks, which attract large crowds of revelers.

The operation leading to the arrests was part of the Police's 'Carnival Operation', aimed at curbing drug-related offenses during the festive season. Both women were apprehended while allegedly selling the marijuana products to festival-goers, which constituted drug trafficking under Brazilian law. Following their arrest, they were taken to the 27th Police District for processing, where the incident was formally registered.

As the carnival season draws large crowds, law enforcement agencies often ramp up their presence to combat illegal activities, including drug sales. These arrests underscore the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in maintaining public safety during major events and the increasing trend of edible marijuana products being marketed at such gatherings, prompting a need for deeper legal and social discourse around drug policies in Brazil.
