Four schools suspend classes on Monday (23) after floods in Ubatuba, São Paulo's North Coast

Heavy rains in Ubatuba have caused floods, leading to the suspension of classes in four municipal schools for safety and assessment reasons.

In response to severe flooding caused by heavy rains in Ubatuba, local authorities suspended classes at four municipal schools on Monday, the 23rd. This decision was made as a precautionary measure due to structural impacts, flooding points, and the need for technical inspections to ensure the safety of students and staff. The affected schools include EM Sebastiana Luiza de Oliveira Prado and Escola José de Souza Simeão, both situated in the Taquaral neighborhood, among others.

Additionally, the heavy rainfall has resulted in tragic incidents, including a maritime accident where two men in their sixties lost their lives after a fishing boat capsized off Ponta Grossa on Saturday night, the 21st. The boat, which carried five individuals, highlights the dangers posed by the severe weather conditions experienced in the region.

The municipal authorities have committed to conducting technical evaluations, along with cleanup and sanitization services at the affected schools. At this time, a timeline for the resumption of classes has not been established, as the conditions are being assessed to ensure a safe return for students and staff.
