Consumption warns of choking hazard from gummy bears from Japan
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has issued a warning about choking risks associated with Hello Kitty gummy candies from Japan.
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan), under the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption, and the 2030 Agenda, has raised an alarm regarding choking hazards linked to the 'Hello Kitty Apple and Konjac Gummies' imported from Japan via the Netherlands. The warning follows a notification received from Dutch health authorities through the European Food Alert Network (RASFF).
The specific product in question is the 'Hello Kitty Apple and Konjac Gelatin', manufactured by Sanrio, which has reportedly been distributed across various autonomous communities in Spain, including Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castile and León, Catalonia, Galicia, Madrid, and Valencia. However, the Agency has noted that there may be further redistribution to other regions that have not been directly identified in the alert.
Aesan emphasized the importance of consumer awareness regarding this potential risk and has urged the population to exercise caution when consuming the affected product, highlighting that the threat of choking is particularly acute for children. The agency's swift action underscores the role of food safety agencies in monitoring and ensuring public health amidst the complexities of food imports.
