Corridors of Nova Iguaçu General Hospital Flooded After Rainwater Gallery Overflowed
Corridors of the Nova Iguaçu General Hospital were flooded due to heavy rainfall, although patient care was not impacted.
The corridors of Nova Iguaçu General Hospital, also known as Hospital da Posse, were flooded due to torrential rain that hit the municipality on Saturday evening. Images of staff attempting to remove water from the flooded corridors circulated online, drawing attention to the issue. The Municipal Health Department of Nova Iguaçu confirmed that the flooding was caused by an overflow of a rainwater gallery, which was overwhelmed by the high volume of rain over the past days.
Despite the severe weather and flooding, the health department ensured that patient care continued unaffected. The heavy rains that led to the flooding have prompted the municipality to remain at a maximum alert stage due to ongoing adverse weather conditions. The National Center for Monitoring and Warning of Natural Disasters (Cemaden) reported a significant rainfall of 97 mm in the last 24 hours, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The flooding incident raises concerns regarding the infrastructure and preparedness of public hospitals in extreme weather scenarios. The situation emphasizes the need for municipalities to enhance their drainage systems and emergency protocols to better handle such disturbances in the future, ensuring safety and health services are maintained during adverse weather conditions.
