VIDEO: Flood invades hospitals in Juiz de Fora
Heavy rainfall caused flooding in at least four health units in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, on the evening of Wednesday, 25th.
On Wednesday night, Juiz de Fora faced a severe storm that led to significant flooding in multiple hospitals. At the Hospital de Pronto Socorro (HPS) located in the Passos neighborhood, the floodwater penetrated the lower floor corridors, primarily affecting administrative areas such as the dining room and supply room. Fortunately, the municipality reported that patient care services have returned to normal after the initial disruption.
In addition to the HPS, the Santa Casa de Misericórdia also experienced flooding, particularly in its parking area and vehicle maneuvering spaces. This incident occurred directly across from HPS, highlighting the widespread impact of the torrential rain. The hospital management confirmed that while the flooding did disrupt some operations, patient health services remained largely unaffected.
Another affected facility was the Hospital Maternidade Therezinha de Jesus in the São Mateus neighborhood, which had to deal with floodwaters intruding into its premises. The staff promptly acted to drain and clean the impacted areas, assuring that their medical services were not compromised. Additionally, the heavy rainfall led to mudslides in the Cascatinha neighborhood, impacting the parking area of Ascomcer, an organization that provides cancer treatment.
