BNDES releases R$ 122.5 million for Klabin

BNDES has approved financing of R$ 122.55 million for research, development, and innovation projects at Klabin, a major paper and cellulose exporter in Brazil.

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) of Brazil has approved a financing package of R$ 122.55 million intended for 14 research, development, and innovation (PD&I) projects at the Klabin company, a prominent player in the paper and cellulose export market. This funding aims to enhance the company's productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness, signaling a significant investment in the future of Brazil's timber and paper industries.

A portion of the funds will be allocated to initiatives that optimize cellulose production processes, improve paper properties for enhanced packaging performance, and facilitate recycling efforts. Specifically, around R$ 41 million of the total will focus on forestry research projects, including genetic improvements for eucalyptus and pine trees as well as enhancements in wood quality. These investments reflect a broader commitment to sustainable practices in forestry and manufacturing.

With these projects, expected outcomes include advances in pest and disease management and the development of innovative solutions for adapting to and tolerating adverse climatic conditions. This investment not only aims to strengthen Klabin's market position but also reinforces Brazil's role in sustainable forestry and innovation in product development within the sector.
