BNDES has record recurring profit of R$ 15.2 billion in 2025
The Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) reported a record recurring profit of R$ 15.2 billion for 2025, marking a significant increase from the previous year and reflecting strong credit activity in the economy.
The Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced on Tuesday that it closed the year 2025 with a record recurring profit of R$ 15.2 billion, which is a 15.4% increase compared to the previous year and marks the highest profit in the bank's history. This financial performance is attributed to a substantial injection of credit into the economy, with approvals totaling R$ 366 billion for the year, a 32% increase from 2024, demonstrating the bank's pivotal role in supporting economic growth.
BNDES also reported a record asset portfolio totaling R$ 962 billion, along with its credit portfolio reaching R$ 664 billion, the largest since 2016. Alexandre Abreu, BNDES's financial and capital markets director, emphasized the turnaround in the bank's fortunes since the new leadership took over, combating concerns regarding declining assets over previous years. The revival strategy has successfully boosted the bank's balance sheet and restored investor confidence.
Additionally, the bank's free cash flow has seen significant improvement, rising from R$ 16 billion in 2022 to R$ 61 billion by the end of 2025, highlighting substantial liquidity recovery. Disbursements throughout the year totaled R$ 169.7 billion, reinforcing BNDES's capacity to finance development initiatives across Brazil. This performance is expected to have positive implications for the country's economic landscape as the bank continues its efforts in driving growth through increased lending.
