Kim Gi-ri, a new star of the Korean women's short track team and an Olympic double champion, was named MVP at the Korean sports team's closing ceremony for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Kim Gi-ri, who achieved two gold medals and one bronze at her first Olympics, was celebrated as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Korean team during the closing ceremony held at Korea House in Milan, Italy. Her recognition came after she garnered over 80% of the votes in a poll conducted among the reporters covering the event, surpassing fellow athlete Jeong Ga-on, who brought home Korea's first gold medal in snowboarding. Kim expressed gratitude for the award, noting the challenges she faced and attributing her success to the support she received from fans.

In the Olympics, Kim marked her journey with a bronze medal in the women's 1000m short track race, her first medal, followed by gold medals in the 3000m relay and the 1500m. In a subsequent press conference, she remarked that giving her best in each event led to her success, and she felt that this was just the beginning. Kim vowed to continue her hard work and set new goals after what she described as an incredible experience that she could hardly believe was over.
