Judge Silvia Albano, head of the immigration section at the Rome tribunal, has been increasingly vocal in public debates, particularly regarding the Italian government's approach to justice. Recently participating with the Democratic Party in a meeting opposing the justice referendum, Albano emphasized her worries about what she describes as the 'daily delegitimization' of the judiciary. She fears that such actions pose a significant threat to the integrity of the legal system.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Albano stated her deep concerns both as a citizen and a magistrate. She argued that the judiciary must remain independent and impartial, carrying out its duties without political interference. If the judiciary is pressured to refrain from conducting its work to avoid 'obstructing government policies', it would endanger the rights of all citizens, she cautioned, indicating the serious implications of such a trend on democratic governance.

Albano, who also leads the influential leftist faction Magistratura Democratica, is alarmed about what she sees as a systematic undermining of the judicial system's authority. This narrative echoes broader tensions in Italy regarding the balance of power among government institutions and the protection of civil liberties, stressing the importance of safeguarding the judiciary's role in upholding the rule of law amid rising political pressures.
