BREAKING: APC candidate wins AMAC chairmanship election in FCT

Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress has been declared the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship election, securing over 40,000 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially declared Christopher Maikalangu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Maikalangu, who was the incumbent, was confirmed to have received 40,295 votes, which represented the highest total among the candidates participating in the election. The election saw a total of 65,197 votes cast, with 62,861 deemed valid, reflecting a competitive but ultimately decisive victory for the APC candidate.

Andrew Abue, the collation officer for AMAC, detailed the election results, highlighting that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came in a distant second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only garnered 3,398 votes. Additionally, there were 2,336 rejected votes, demonstrating both the level of participation and the challenges faced by some candidates in connecting with the electorate. The total number of registered voters for the election was reported at 837,338, indicating a modest turnout with 65,676 accredited voters.

Maikalangu's victory solidifies the APC's influence in the region and anticipates the continuation of his policies and initiatives within the council. His successful re-election is expected to impact local governance in Abuja, particularly given the recent political trends and voter sentiment in the area. As the political landscape evolves, Maikalangu will need to address the concerns of voters while maintaining party unity and tackling local issues to secure further support in future elections.
