Slippery roads in Western Sweden – more accidents in a short time
Several accidents occurred in Western Sweden due to icy road conditions, leading to multiple injuries.
Icy conditions were reported in parts of Western Sweden starting late Saturday night, resulting in several traffic accidents. One of the most notable incidents occurred on county road 195 in Brevik, where a car rolled off the road, and the driver had to be taken to the hospital but was awake and communicative according to police reports. In Göteborg, a vehicle also overturned near the Ullevi interchange, with the two occupants managing to escape but one requiring hospitalization.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, further accidents were reported on the E6 highway in Halland, specifically in Varberg and Falkenberg. Both incidents were single-vehicle accidents, leading to significant disruptions on the road. According to L-O Nordström from the Storgöteborg Fire Service, a personal vehicle crashed into the central barrier in Väröbacka shortly before 5 AM, followed by a truck veering off the road and landing in a ditch further south in Falkenberg.
The accidents were attributed to the freezing conditions following a thaw the previous day, illustrating the dangers of driving in variable weather. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and to stay updated on road conditions as predictions of further cold weather are expected, which could exacerbate icy conditions on the roads.
