Daejeon Fire Department Operates 'Pump-ambulance' Year-Round
The Daejeon Fire Department has announced the year-round operation of a new 'pump-ambulance' system to enhance emergency response effectiveness.
On the 22nd, the Daejeon Fire Department revealed that it will operate a 'pump-ambulance' system year-round. This innovative service combines a fire pump truck and an ambulance, designed to deploy both vehicles simultaneously in emergency situations, thereby improving emergency responses and rescue operations. The system is expected to enhance the efficiency of medical aid and rescue efforts during fires and other emergencies.
In 2023, the Daejeon Fire Department set up this pump-ambulance system at five fire stations, including East, Dunsan, Daedeok, Yuseong, and West fire stations, along with 27 safety centers. It involves the participation of 27 equipped vehicles and 332 personnel. The pump-ambulance has proven effective not only in rescuing patients suffering from cardiac arrest or severe trauma but also in safely managing emergency medical activities at hazardous sites such as traffic accidents or disaster areas.
From 2024 to 2025, the Daejeon Fire Department responded to a total of 3,933 calls involving the pump-ambulance, covering incidents like traffic accidents (2,733 cases) and health issues (838 cases). Kim Hwa-sik from the Emergency Rescue Division emphasized that this system minimizes gaps in initial emergency response during disasters and ensures the safety of emergency personnel, making it a crucial component of their emergency response strategy.
