Troops kill five terror suspects in Borno

Nigerian troops have killed five suspected terrorists affiliated with ISWAP during operations in Borno State.

Nigerian troops engaged in Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized five suspected terrorists connected to the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) in a battle that occurred early Saturday in Borno State. According to Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Taskforce in Northeast Nigeria, the clash took place when troops on patrol met with suspected members of the terrorist group around Sabsawa village. The operation was reported to be intense, with the troops using superior firepower that led to the disarray and subsequent fleeing of the terrorists.

In addition to the elimination of the five terrorists, an 18-year-old member of the same group voluntarily surrendered in Geidam, Yobe State. This incident underscores the ongoing conflict in the region, which remains a hotspot for militant activities linked to ISWAP and Boko Haram. The surrender of young members indicates a potential shift in the local sentiment towards the conflict, possibly influenced by military pressure and the desire for safety.

The efforts of Operation Hadin Kai showcase the Nigerian military's commitment to combatting insurgency in the northeastern part of the country. As they continue their operations, there are both challenges and progress in addressing the security threats posed by these extremists, with significant implications for humanitarian conditions and the stability of the region.
