Figure skating coach Reinsalu denies allegations of violence

Figure skating coach Reinsalu has publicly denied charges of violence and threats against fellow trainers, while countering allegations with a lawsuit for defamation from a former student.

Reinsalu, a figure skating coach, publicly denied allegations of violence and threats made against him, first raised a year ago by fellow coach Karine Magone during a Latvian Television interview. The allegations include claims of death threats made in a coaching council meeting, which both Reinsalu and the president of the federation, Uldis Šauers, have denied. More accusations emerged from former pupil Sofija Stepčenko, who accused him of physical and emotional abuse.

Despite initially avoiding interviews, Reinsalu has engaged a public relations agency and lawyer, now prepared to speak on camera in response to the allegations. His club, 'Kristal Ice,' has decided to sue Stepčenko for defamation, asserting that the majority of the allegations are absurd and part of a competitive rivalry. Reinsalu emphasizes that there is transparency in their training environment, claiming that all actions are conducted openly.

This situation has raised concerns in the Latvian sports community, as claims of misconduct can have serious implications for coaching careers and the well-being of athletes. The outcome of the lawsuit and public response may influence the future of Reinsalu's coaching career and the reputation of the Latvian figure skating scene.
