Figure skating coach Reinsalu has approached the arbitration court

Latvian and Lithuanian figure skating coach Raimo Reinsalu has filed a case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) due to his temporary disqualification from working at the Milan and Cortina Olympic Games.

Raimo Reinsalu, a coach and consultant for Latvian and Lithuanian figure skaters, has taken his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following a temporary disqualification imposed on him. This disqualification prevents him from participating in the upcoming Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina. A CAS panel specifically created for the Olympic Games received his submission on Monday and is scheduled to hear Reinsalu's case on Wednesday.

The coach has also reached out to the International Skating Union (ISU) with a request to lift the disqualification, asserting that it is a deliberate attempt to undermine the emotional state of his athletes from Latvia and Lithuania ahead of crucial competitions. The ISU submitted a complaint against Reinsalu to their Disciplinary Commission over the weekend, prompting a requirement for Reinsalu to provide a response within 21 days.

Despite the controversy, the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) has indicated that Reinsalu's inclusion in the Latvian delegation was not originally planned. However, there was a possibility for him to support Latvian figure skater Fedira Kuļiša as a representative from another delegation. The LOC has ruled out this option, highlighting the complexities surrounding Reinsalu’s current situation and its implications for the athletes he coaches.
