Earthquake near Bratislava / Near Rohovce its magnitude was up to 4.3. Scientists ask the public to fill out a questionnaire
An earthquake measuring 4.3 in magnitude struck western Slovakia near Rohovce without reported casualties, prompting scientists to request public input through a questionnaire.
On Saturday afternoon, western Slovakia experienced an earthquake measuring 4.3 in magnitude. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities among the residents following the seismic event, and further aftershocks are not expected. The earthquake was confirmed by Kristián Csicsay, the head of the seismology department at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, indicating that the epicenter was located near the Slovak-Hungarian border, approximately two kilometers from the town of Šamorín.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) provided additional details, identifying the epicenter's coordinates close to the villages of Kyselica and Rohovce, not far from Šamorín. Earlier data had suggested the quake was related to the Gabčíkovo Waterworks. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 13 kilometers at 13:44 Central European Time, according to the EMSC. Experts are still awaiting a review of data gathered by automated instruments to ensure the accuracy of these findings.
This incident marks a significant event for the local community, and scientists are actively engaging the public by asking residents who felt the quake to complete a questionnaire to gather more data. This public input is crucial for improving future understanding of seismic activities in the region, enhancing preparedness and response strategies for any future earthquakes.
