An earthquake hit southwest Slovakia, and tremors were felt in Bratislava and its surroundings

Southwest Slovakia experienced a minor earthquake with a magnitude between 4.3 and 4.6, causing tremors felt in Bratislava.

On Saturday, Slovakia was affected by a minor earthquake measuring between 4.3 and 4.6 in magnitude, with its epicenter located near Šamorín at a depth of approximately 13 kilometers. The Ministry of Interior has sought to reassure the public by stating that no aftershocks are currently expected based on available information. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries as authorities gather data regarding potential property damage.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake occurred at 13:44. Initially, the quake's strength was estimated at 4.6 before being revised down to 4.3 magnitude. The tremors were confirmed by the Slovak Seismological Site on Facebook, which experienced website outages due to a high volume of interest from the public. Kristián Csicsay, head of the seismology department at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, also corroborated the reports for TASR news agency.

Witnesses described the experience on social media, noting the tremors lasted only a few seconds. A resident of Šamorín named Diana recounted her experience of feeling as if an airplane had crashed nearby, stating that her entire house and furniture shook. Complaints about the experience have flooded social media, highlighting the community's immediate concern and response to the tremor they felt, reflective of a heightened awareness of seismic activity in the region.
