Couple arrested in Tocantins with over R$ 500,000 in jewelry after robbery in Pará, says police
A couple was arrested in Tocantins after police recovered jewelry worth approximately R$ 550,000 believed to be stolen from Pará.
A couple was apprehended in Caseara, Tocantins, after the Military Police recovered luxury items, including over a hundred gold necklaces and bracelets valued at around R$ 550,000. The police believe these items are the result of a serious robbery that occurred in Santana do Araguaia, Pará. Surveillance footage indicated that the suspects, a 20-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, crossed a ferry into Tocantins on a white motorcycle which prompted authorities to launch a search in local hotels.
Upon locating the motorcycle and the couple at a hotel in Caseara, the police conducted an inspection and discovered the stolen jewelry scattered on the bed, along with a .38 caliber revolver containing three live rounds. The police have not released the suspects' names, and attempts to contact their legal representatives were unsuccessful, indicating a growing concern over violent crime linked to organized theft in the region.
This incident sheds light on the brazen nature of criminal activities within Brazil, particularly highlighting the movement of stolen goods across state lines. The authorities face significant challenges in combating such operations, as demonstrated by the couple's swift departure from the crime scene and subsequent recognition by law enforcement. Such arrests not only aim to retrieve stolen items but also serve as a deterrent against potential future robberies within the country.
