Showed what the top of the television tower looks like in winter: several tons of ice can form

The TV tower's upper section is closed to the public during winter due to the risk of heavy ice buildup that poses safety hazards.

The representatives of the TV tower in Lithuania announced that the top of the structure is susceptible to significant ice accumulation during winter conditions. They warned that under certain meteorological circumstances, several tons of ice can form on the metal upper part of the tower, leading to the risk of large ice chunks breaking off and falling from a height, which poses dangers to the area surrounding the tower.

As a precautionary measure, the outdoor terrace remains closed during the cold months, as falling ice can create hazards for people within a 100-meter radius of the tower. The TV tower's officials emphasized the importance of monitoring the ice buildup on the tower's structure throughout winter, particularly during thaw periods when ice can detach. This continued monitoring is crucial for ensuring the safety of visitors and surrounding areas.

The officials indicated that the terrace, which provides visitors a scenic view, will only reopen in spring when the weather warms up, allowing for safe visits. This decision highlights the tower's commitment to prioritizing visitor safety in adverse weather conditions, ensuring that any potential ice hazards are managed effectively before welcoming the public back to the outdoor terrace.
