Volunteers in Sweden have taken the initiative to clear Göta Canal for ice skating, an endeavor that highlights community spirit and winter enjoyment. Alexander Viiri praised the dedicated volunteers who have worked hard to prepare the ice, underscoring the effort behind making this experience possible amidst the country’s winter scenery. The ice on the canal, which has reached a thickness of 21 centimeters, has allowed locals and visitors to skate for nearly two weeks along a stretch of five kilometers all the way to Mem.

The project began when Knut Nord learned that his neighbor, Fredrik Möller, had acquired a four-wheeler, which sparked the idea to start clearing the canal. As the ice skating path opened up, it has transformed into a hub of activity, attracting families and young people eager to take advantage of the rare opportunity to skate on a historic waterway.
