Niklas searches for wrecks – from the skates: "Fantastic view"
Enthusiasts enjoy skating on Vättern's clear ice while searching for shipwrecks from the 1800s.
In the beautiful setting of Vättern, a group of long-distance skaters led by Niklas Zackrisson has been cherishing the remarkable conditions allowing visibility beneath the ice. Zackrisson, who has been skating daily during his vacation, mentions that the combination of solid ice and sunny weather enabled them to see as far as ten meters below the surface, enhancing their skating experience immensely. The absence of typical frost flowers that obstruct visibility contributed to the perfect day on the ice.
On a recent excursion starting from Medevi on the eastern shore, they ventured towards Stora Röknen island, drawn by memories of shipwrecks lying beneath the water. The expedition exemplifies the joy and exploration spirit of the skating community, as the skaters seek not only to enjoy the sport but also to engage with the historical aspects of their environment, finding thrill in both the activity and the sights beneath.
