PDP, ADC agents protest vote buying at FCT polling unit

Agents from the PDP and ADC protested alleged vote buying by APC agents during the FCT Area Council elections in Nyanya.

Agents from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) protested against alleged vote buying attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a polling unit in Nyanya during the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The opposition agents accused suspected APC intermediaries of trying to induce voters with cash offers, sparking significant tension at the polling unit.

Witnesses reported that individuals approached voters in a line, offering ₦1,000 in exchange for their votes. One PDP agent, who spoke anonymously, described the scene as chaotic, alleging that these individuals were indeed working on behalf of the APC. He noted that their attempts were met with firm rejection from the voters and opposition agents, contributing to a temporary disruption that was resolved once the suspected intermediaries departed.

The ADC agent who echoed these concerns questioned the lack of adequate security measures to protect voters from these unethical practices. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges of electoral integrity in Nigeria and raises concerns about the influence of money in politics, especially in an election context that is already fraught with tension.
