Continuous rainfall with thunderstorms has caused flooding in at least 50 areas of Guayaquil, Ecuador, with reports of fallen trees and water accumulation in various neighborhoods.
Between the night of February 20 and the early morning of February 21, Guayaquil experienced continuous rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, leading to significant water accumulation and flooding in various neighborhoods. Reports from the municipal company Segura indicated that at least 50 areas were affected by the heavy rainfall, prompting emergency responses from water supply and drainage services.
Among the most affected locations were the intersections of JuliΓ‘n Coronel and Rumichaca, Venezuela and Los RΓos, and various streets in the Urdesa neighborhood, where water pooled on major thoroughfares. The city's local government mobilized units of the water and sewage company to address the flooding issues in different sectors, ensuring a rapid response to help those affected by the weather conditions.
The report from Segura also included incidents of fallen trees, notably one in the Floresta 3 area. The severe weather raised concerns about infrastructure and emergency preparedness in the region, highlighting the need for ongoing investment in drainage and stormwater management systems to mitigate future flooding risks during heavy rain events.
