More than 20 sectors in Guayaquil with issues following heavy rain in recent hours
Heavy rain fell in Guayaquil, affecting several neighborhoods, especially in the south and west, leading to water accumulation and several municipal interventions.
A strong downpour struck Guayaquil on Wednesday night and continued into Thursday morning, resulting in notable impacts across the city. The southern and western neighborhoods were particularly affected, with reports of significant water accumulation. Interagua's teams were deployed to clear storm drains to facilitate drainage and prevent further flooding.
Last night, a high tide measuring 5.05 meters was recorded around 20:09, compounding the effects of the rain. Emergency responses included clearing a fallen tree in the intersection of Calle 25 and Colombia, as well as monitoring the conditions across the city. Segura EP reported issues across 27 sectors during the overnight hours, highlighting the widespread effects of the rainfall.
Among the neighborhoods most impacted were Gómez Rendón, Lizardo García, Ciudadela Ferroviaria, and various areas along Avenida Quito. With recurring weather patterns and high tides, city officials will need to address infrastructure resilience to cope with future rain events more effectively, ensuring public safety and minimizing disruption in urban areas.
