Weather: Low Pressure Active in the Bay of Bengal, Rain Alert for 10 States

A low-pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala over the next two days, as warned by the IMD.

A low-pressure system has formed over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent equatorial Indian Ocean, leading to a forecast for heavy rainfall in parts of South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala on February 21 and 22. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that this rainfall may be accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, thunderstorms, and lightning. Additionally, maximum temperatures in northwestern India are predicted to gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next week. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, and Theni, due to expected heavy rainfall on February 21. Similarly, in Kerala, five districts have also received yellow alerts. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions as the severe weather approaches. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into parts of the Bay of Bengal due to the anticipated strong winds and inclement weather conditions. This weather pattern reflects the ongoing seasonal changes in the region and emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant as the IMD continues to monitor the situation. The alerts serve to prepare the local population for potential disruptions caused by the weather, highlighting the need for adherence to safety measures to avoid any adverse effects from the heavy rains and strong winds.
