Jeonbuk Forward Mota, who transferred on loan from Anyang, scores the winning goal in the Super Cup, bringing the trophy to the team

Jeonbuk Hyundai won the revived Super Cup after 20 years thanks to a winning goal by their loaned striker Mota.

Jeonbuk Hyundai emerged victorious in the 'Coupang Play K League Super Cup 2026' held at Jeonju World Cup Stadium against Daejeon Hana Citizen, winning 2-0. The match featured crucial goals from two new signings, Mota and Thiago, marking Jeonbuk's first-ever Super Cup title in the club's history. The Super Cup, which pits the previous year's K League 1 and Korea Cup champions against one another, had not been played since 2006 until this revival.

Under the management of Jeong Jeong-yong, Jeonbuk's strategy incorporated both seasoned players and newcomers with Mota leading the attack. Mota's opening goal came from a well-executed play involving Kim Tae-hyun, who assisted with a precise pass into the penalty area, showcasing Mota's skill in finding the net after previously scoring 14 goals for FC Anyang last season. Thiago secured the win with an additional goal, ensuring Jeonbuk’s lead remained unchallenged despite conceding a late penalty that was saved by goalkeeper Song Beom-keun.

The match drew an enthusiastic crowd of 19,350 fans, further elevated by appearances from club legends Lee Dong-gook and Kim Eun-jung, who brought the trophy onto the pitch. This match not only marked a significant milestone for Jeonbuk as they celebrated their inaugural Super Cup victory but also served as a triumphant debut for coach Jeong, who experienced success at the start of the professional football season. The collaboration among new recruits and effective game strategy contributed to an impressive start for Jeonbuk Hyundai in the upcoming season.
