The Norwegian Public Roads Administration: - Many reports of slippery roads

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has received numerous reports of icy road conditions across Western Norway, prompting a yellow warning for ice in multiple regions.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Vegvesenet) has reported a significant number of notifications regarding slippery roads throughout Western Norway, particularly in areas such as Florø, Eigersund, and Øygarden. This issue has arisen due to a yellow ice warning issued for Rogaland, the Oslo region, and Vestland, which is in effect from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon. Drivers have experienced difficulties with their tires slipping on the icy surfaces, indicating risky driving conditions.

Additionally, a serious incident occurred overnight, where a vehicle reportedly ran off the road, rolled over, and collided with a rock wall due to the winter weather outside Førde. In response to these hazardous conditions, traffic operator Andreas Rasmussen noted that salting efforts had been implemented early Friday morning, but rain had washed the salt away. Consequently, contractors are now working on applying another layer of salt to help prevent further freezing on the roads.

Rasmussen emphasized that while the asphalt may appear smooth and black, it can still be very slippery. He advises drivers to reduce their speed and exercise caution when navigating affected roads. This situation highlights the need for increased awareness among drivers regarding changing weather conditions and their impact on road safety, especially during winter months in Norway.
