Slippery roads in Eastern Norway – yellow weather warning
Eastern Norway is facing slippery roads due to mild weather and rain, prompting a yellow weather warning from the Meteorological Institute.
Eastern Norway is experiencing difficult driving conditions this Thursday morning due to mild weather and rain leading to slippery roads and sidewalks. The Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow weather warning for freezing rain and ice, valid until noon. Particularly affected areas include Romerike and Innlandet, which are known for their more vulnerable road conditions. Traffic operator Trude Lindstad from the Eastern Road Traffic Centre has indicated that the primary hazards are along county roads and smaller routes.
The main roads, specifically the E6 and E18, appear to be in good condition as they have been well-salted and are clear of ice. However, contractors are now spreading salt on the smaller roads despite concerns that rainfall may wash away the treatment. Lindstad has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and drive according to the conditions, emphasizing the importance of safe driving during this hazardous weather.
In Oslo city center, many sidewalks are covered in ice, with public transport operator Ruter warning about particularly slippery conditions around the Jernbanetorget area. Passengers are advised to take extra care while boarding and alighting due to the icy surfaces present on platforms and steps. This situation emphasizes the need for public awareness and caution during winter weather events, especially with rising temperatures leading to icy conditions.
