How a Belgian techno producer with some old synthesizers has reimagined Terminator 2
Belgian techno producer Peter van Hoesen has reimagined the iconic score of Terminator 2: Judgment Day for a new live performance in Australia.
Belgian techno producer Peter van Hoesen has created a new score for the classic film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, marking a bold departure from the original film score that features a memorable drums-of-war rhythm. This initiative will be showcased through the 'Hear My Eyes' project, which has a decade-long history of reinterpreting classic films by commissioning new music for them. The live performances, featuring the new score along with visuals, aim to provide a fresh artistic experience and engage the audience in a way that honors the original film while presenting it anew.
Van Hoesen will perform the newly composed score live with the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) starting February 25 in Melbourne, followed by additional shows in Sydney and Canberra. The combination of cutting-edge technology, new musical interpretations, and live visual elements—such as lasers—highlights how the project aims not only to celebrate classic cinema but also to push artistic boundaries and intersect different genres of music and film.
This creative endeavor opens up discussions about the relevance and adaptability of classic film scores within contemporary music culture. By elevating old films with new auditory experiences, projects like Hear My Eyes stimulate conversations regarding the evolution of cinematic art forms and the role of live performance in experiencing film, thus reaching both nostalgic viewers and newer generations in fresh and innovative ways.
