Traditional fine arts meet digital sculpture, illustration at NT showcase
The Exit Art showcase at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory features 59 young artists, highlighting a trend towards traditional arts among digital natives.
The Exit Art exhibition, taking place at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, presents the works of 59 young artists from across the region, celebrating a 'return to craft' as they explore traditional fine arts alongside digital mediums. Among the 10 award winners, Natasha Lee and Austin Armstrong from Darwin High have been recognized for their exceptional self-portraits, showcasing the skills and creativity of the next generation of artists in the Northern Territory.
This annual showcase, which has been a prominent feature for over twenty years, aims to highlight and encourage young talents from 14 high schools in the Northern Territory. Each year, a panel of judges carefully selects artworks that resonate with contemporary themes while also paying homage to traditional craft techniques. This year’s exhibit particularly emphasizes how young, digitally savvy artists are rediscovering the value and appeal of handmade art forms.
The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of May, inviting local communities to engage with the vibrant artistic expressions of youth in the Territory. As these young artists navigate between the realms of digital and traditional art, their works reflect a unique blend of cultures and influences, poised to inspire future generations both locally and beyond.
