After postponements, the mega-terminal auction has no defined date
The auction for the Santos Container Terminal (Tecon Santos 10) at the Port of Santos is still without a set date after several delays, with the Ministry of Ports and Airports targeting 2026 for its completion.
The auction for Tecon Santos 10, a mega-terminal project at the Port of Santos, continues to be without a defined date following a series of postponements. The Ministry of Ports and Airports of Brazil confirmed that the official expectation is to conduct the auction in 2026, although no specific timeline has been established yet. The project is highly anticipated in the sector, as it is expected to enhance the container handling capacity of the port by approximately 50%.
Tecon Santos 10 represents a significant investment of around R$ 6.45 billion, featuring an initial contract of 25 years that can be renewed for an additional 70 years. It will occupy a strategically important area of 621,9 thousand square meters at the Saboó dock on the São Paulo coastline. This development is seen as a cornerstone for increasing the operational efficiency of one of Brazil's most crucial ports.
According to the Ministry, the project is currently in the process of finalizing the legal documents, with the National Agency for Waterway Transport (Antaq) drafting the auction notice. The timetable is undergoing technical adjustments following recommendations from the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). The ministry emphasized the project's importance, labeling it as a priority in their auction portfolio, which highlights the significance placed on improving Brazil’s infrastructure and port capabilities to accommodate growing trade demands.
