ELTA briefly: institutions prepare for possible flood, AOTD warns about recruitment
Lithuanian authorities are preparing for possible floods following predictions of warming and thawing, while a demonstration in Vilnius highlights the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
As warming temperatures and thawing conditions are predicted, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has instructed relevant institutions and services to prepare a detailed plan by the beginning of next week to manage potential flooding. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for services and municipalities to work cohesively as a unified team, ensuring that decisions are implemented promptly. She underlined the importance of public awareness, instructing citizens on how to act in various scenarios, where to seek assistance, and what measures can be taken to protect themselves and their properties.
In a separate initiative, coinciding with the approach of the fourth anniversary of the war in Ukraine, an event titled "Put in Jail" was held in Vilnius near the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights. This event featured a life-sized figure of Russian President Vladimir Putin, created using artificial intelligence, dressed in a criminal uniform and handcuffs, symbolizing opposition to the war. The "Put in Jail" campaign began in 2023 and aims to raise awareness and provoke discussion regarding the ongoing conflict and its implications.
These actions by the Lithuanian government and civil society reflect a growing urgency in addressing both environmental concerns, such as flood preparedness, and political issues, particularly relating to the war in Ukraine. The combined approach signifies a proactive stance by Lithuanian authorities in safeguarding both their citizens' welfare and engaging in international discourse surrounding their regional stability and security, focusing on the interplay between nature and geopolitical tensions.
